FlyProof

Do I need proof
of onward travel?

Tell us your passport, destination and how you are entering. We answer from official sources only, show who may ask and what to prepare, and say plainly when the rules are unclear.

A research aid, not legal advice. Entry is decided by border officers, boarding by your airline.

Your answer appears here.

Whether proof is likely required, why, who may ask, what to prepare, and the official sources with the date we checked them. Every answer is one of four:

  • Likely required
  • May be requested
  • Generally not required
  • Check required

What the answers mean

  • Likely required: an official source lists onward or return travel as an entry condition.
  • May be requested: officers or airlines may ask, or it is a listed supporting document.
  • Generally not required: an official source supports that, for example citizens entering their own country.
  • Check required: the sources are unclear, or we have not reviewed your situation.

Where the rules come from

Each rule links to the immigration authority, foreign ministry, official visa portal or the IATA Travel Centre, with the date we checked it. See our editorial policy.

What it cannot do

It does not decide entry or boarding, and it does not replace the official source. Airlines apply their own checks, explained in do airlines check onward tickets?
