Scoot: onward ticket checks

Short answer

Scoot's conditions of carriage do not set an onward-ticket rule of their own. They make you solely responsible for the entry requirements of every point on your trip and let Scoot refuse to fly you, even with a booking, if you do not appear to be properly documented. The answer therefore depends on where you land: Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines all list proof of leaving, and Thailand's visa on arrival asks for a fully paid ticket.

What Scoot's conditions of carriage say

Scoot's conditions, effective 5 October 2026, put entry rules on the traveller in two places. Clause 3.1 says it is your sole responsibility to comply with the laws of all points of travel and to research entry requirements, including passports, visas and identification, before booking; any help from Scoot does not change that. Clause 12.1 repeats that you assume sole responsibility for valid travel documentation.

Clause 8.1 lists when Scoot may refuse to carry you even though you hold a booking, or remove you after boarding. Two grounds matter here: carrying you would breach a law or an immigration direction of the country you are flying to or from, and you do not appear to be properly documented.

The document never names an onward or return ticket. The check at a Scoot counter is against your destination's rules.

Connections and missed flights

Clause 7.1 says that, unless specified otherwise, you check in for each flight sector by its deadline and clear immigration and customs at connection airports. Clause 9.5 adds that Scoot flights are sold per sector, and that on separate itineraries you clear customs and immigration and collect your bags before your next flight. If that is your connection at Changi, you are entering Singapore and its entry rules apply as well.

Under clause 9.5, if a late inbound flight makes you miss a connection, booking a new onward flight is at your own expense, unless both flights are on the same itinerary via Singapore or you are connecting with Virgin Australia.

Clause 9.6 matters when the exit you plan to show is the return half of a Scoot booking. Miss the first flight and Scoot cancels the remaining flights unless you call a Scoot Call Centre within 48 hours of the missed departure.

If you are refused entry

Clause 12.6 covers a refusal by immigration officials at your destination. Scoot does not refund the fare, fees, charges or taxes to the point of refusal; you pay the fare for the flight Scoot is ordered to take you on; and you pay any fines or expenses that follow, which Scoot may charge to your credit card.

FlyProof is not affiliated with Scoot. It provides a real airline reservation with a reference that can be checked, for trips where the destination asks for proof of onward travel rather than a paid ticket; the Scoot agent and the immigration officer decide whether to accept it.

Questions

Does Scoot require a return ticket?

Not as a rule of its own. Scoot checks your documents against the destination's requirements and may refuse carriage if you do not appear properly documented, so a one-way flight to a country that asks for proof of leaving can be stopped at check-in.

What happens to my Scoot return flight if I miss the outbound?

Clause 9.6 says Scoot cancels the remaining flights in the booking unless you call a Scoot Call Centre within 48 hours of the departure you missed.

Is a reservation enough for Thailand's visa on arrival?

No. The Royal Thai Embassy in London asks visa-on-arrival applicants for fully paid onward travel tickets within 15 days of entry. A reservation is unpaid, so buy a ticket you can change or refund.

Can Scoot charge me if I am refused entry?

Yes. Clause 12.6 makes you pay the fare for the return flight and any resulting fines or expenses, and lets Scoot charge them to your credit card.
